Welcome to The Phoenix Doula, a practice that is full spectrum, evidence based and believes that each person needs to have an advocate.

I’m Cat, and I’m the founder. Birth work found me and I love to help expecting individuals learn about their body, their pregnancy and have a doula on their side during birth.

Here at The Phoenix Doula, birth is not just a beginning; it’s a transformation and an act of activism. Activism in that “informed trauma-centered consent,” is necessary for true ethical birth doula work.

Cat is certified through UNCG with trauma informed care, is a safe sleep certified instructor, ICEA trained birth educator, and member of Evidence Based Birth.

Hi, I’m Cat (she/they/ella).

I knew by the Week 5 of pregnancy with my son that I would not let others go through birth alone.

The process of getting pregnant, waiting “12 weeks to reveal,” praying for a positive test, praying for a negative test, and the lack of knowledge women are taught about their own bodies — it is all too much.

After a complicated pregnancy with my son, Ash, full of health issues, and an early delivery followed by a NICU stay; I decided to become a birth doula. I am not a person to sit by and let others go through difficulty alone. If I can learn, educate, and empower; I will.

Our health system is overwhelmed and I needed a doula on my side during that time. So, I became what wished I had.

Outside of birthwork, I’m usually chasing joy in the everyday: walking trails with my partner Morgan (he/they), laughing at my two goofy dogs, Meeka and Jax, and soaking in the little moments of stillness and sunlight. And of course keeping up with Ash as he amazes me each day.

I’m a nature girl at heart with a soft spot for Carolina Jasmine, finding rivers to dip my toes in and being in outside any chance I get. I am going to proactively apologize that I will try to guess your astrological sign, and weirdly get close to the right answer. There will also always be a tarot deck in my purse, I can’t escape certain stereotypes.

The Phoenix Doula as a practice is fiercely committed to equity and justice. Birth work is activism.

As a queer femme person, ally, and survivor, I center trauma-informed care first. Black Lives Matter. Reproductive justice matters. Every birthing person deserves dignity, safety and equitable heatlh care. There are no exceptions.

Whether you’re preparing to give birth, navigating postpartum, or just looking for someone to walk with you on this journey, I’m here. With warmth, without judgment, and with deep reverence for your story.

Why Hire a Doula?

Because it never hurts to have another person in your corner. A birth doula is completely in the pregnant person’s corner, providing support, advocacy, and allowing for moments of calm in a world that creates chaos.

Here at The Phoenix Doula, we don’t believe that there is a one size fit all approach for each person.

Hiring a doula means you have someone who:

  • Supports your decisions without judgment
  • Helps you advocate for what you want and need
  • Understands trauma and how it may shape your experience
  • Creates a space where your identity is affirmed—not questioned
  • Respects the power and wisdom you already hold

The Phoenix Doula is committed to reproductive justice, birth equity, and community care. The aim of the practice isto create spaces where you feel supported, not silenced. In pregnancy, you deserve to be seen and heard in all your fullness. Pregnancy should not cause anyone to shrink themselves to fit into a palatable patient when dignity, safety and advocacy matter more.

Your birth is yours. Here at The Phoenix Doula, we would be honored to walk through it with you. ower, and with people who believe in your right to be heard.

And if it feels right, I’d be honored to be one of those people.
